Lise Blades has been a resident of Lyon Township since 2003, although she feels like it has been her home for much longer since her husband grew up in the area. Mrs. Blades is the Chairperson for the Lyon Township Park Committee and a Planning Commissioner for the Township. She is currently working on her Master of Arts in Journalism Education through Michigan State University.
Mrs. Blades has taught at Cousino High School in Warren, MI since 1994 and currently teaches Literature to Film and Photojournalism 1 and 2. She advised the student newspaper class for 10 years before giving it up to teach more Photojournalism classes.
One main focus of her involvement in the 3 Minutes in Lyon Film Festival has been to show the connection to the State’s curriculum. She feels that many students in photography and broadcasting programs want to apply what they learn in the classroom, and showing this connection provides a purposeful real-world application for them. She wants teachers in the area to use these Film Festival standards to help them in their classes—not to add “one more thing” to their plates.
In her free time, Mrs. Blades enjoys photography, both traditional darkroom and digital. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, outdoor activities, and reading.
